As the countdown to Kickoff for the 2009 season winds down, the NFL RedZone team is hard at work putting the finishing touches on the most exciting new way to watch NFL action on Sunday afternoons. NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson and the rest of the team are currently “kicking the tires” on the new show before Week 1.

Scott Hanson here, the host of NFL Network’s brand new channel, NFL RedZone. We are preparing to bring you all of the the best NFL action every Sunday afternoon during the regular season. The amount of research, hours of planning and rehearsing, and overall manpower that has been invested in NFL RedZone has been staggering to me. We at NFL Network are getting reps this preseason just like the players in training camp around the league. We are preparing the most comprehensive Sunday afternoon whip-around show on television. The countdown is on and come September 13th, the exciting and innovative product that I’m proud to be a part of will take its maiden voyage.

The most exciting part for me is to be so intimately involved with all the action each week, watching all the stories we’ve been following throughout the off-season. We’re finally going to see how free-agent acquisitions, high-profile Draft picks, and highly-touted vets coming back from injury are going to perform on Sunday afternoons when it matters most.

The list is endless for me, and we’ll be able to bring all of these exciting players into your living room each week. Brett Favre wearing Viking purple. Jay Cutler as field general in the Windy City. Michael Vick seeking redemption and a new chapter to his career in Philadelphia. Matt Cassel going from back-up proving he can play with the big boys to a franchise quarterback trying to revive a storied Chiefs franchise. We’ll show you live scoring plays from each of them all season long.

Speaking of Cassel’s move from New England, no one is more excited than me with the return of Tom Brady to the Patriots. The expectation from fans, fantasy players, and opponents alike is that Brady could easily fall back into record-breaking form this season. We will no doubt be on the lookout for Brady-thrown touchdowns on NFL RedZone this fall.

How will the young faces to the league do managing their teams? Will JaMarcus Russell be able to finally right a Raiders ship that has drifted so far off course? Are Baltimore’s Joe Flacco and Atlanta’s Matt Ryan really the real deal? Can Matthew Stafford or Mark Sanchez instill the same rookie magic in Motown or the Big Apple? NFL RedZone will help you follow these stories and many more on Sunday afternoons.

As kickoff to the 2009 opener is approaching, we at NFL Network are as anxious as any fan for the first weekend of the regular season. Please join us for NFL RedZone, starting Sunday, September 13th at 1pm ET…we will bring you every touchdown from every game.

The old cliché about watching a game on TV is that it’s the “best seat in the house.” If that’s true, then the debut of the new NFL RedZone channel put me in the “best seat in the country.”

What a thrill on Week 1. Nine “early” games, which included Drew Brees’ six touchdown passes, Adrian Peterson looking like a man among (poor-tackling) boys, Mark Sanchez getting his first win and the thrill of the weekend – Brandon Stokley’s unreal game-winning TD catch.

All moments we showed you live in HD. Two things that stood out for me as the RedZone host:

1. We were coming off a game that just had a turnover and threw it to the Redskins-Giants showdown. I saw Jason Campbell — one of the last QBs in the league to throw an interception last season — and said, “Jason Campbell, usually careful with the football.” Of course, five seconds later, Osi Umeniyora strips him of the ball and runs the other way for a score. Perfect timing.

2. When we cut to the Broncos-Bengals game for the final 30 seconds, I said, “Kyle Orton gets into the huddle with only a wing and a prayer,” and, of course, the rest is history. It totally made me feel like we were right in the moment. I hope it made you feel that way at home as well.

Lastly, let me mention three people who you’ll probably never see on camera but who I’d want with me in an airplane if we suddenly had to land it without pilots: Coordinating producer Kent Camera (the guy who talks in my ear for seven hours), producer Jonathan Kaplan and director J.D. Hansen. They are the leaders of our team of more than 30 people who work so long and hard to bring you the best of the NFL live in HD — Every Touchdown From Every Game. They have sharp minds, cool tempers and — as the channel demands — strong bladders.
